Questions for those who have graduated blower motor school 200

I'm in the middle of my job. Looks like another 8 hours or so and I'll be done, Somebody get my diploma ready!

Question 1) Who has removed their dashboard to do this job? I took mine out but removed it last to access the recirculating flap vacuum motor. Can I reassemble the whole ductwork system and then put in the dash? Seems easier to get to everything with it out but don't want to reassemble and then find out I can't put the dash back in.

Question 2)Preliminary inspection indicates not enough blower shaft into the passenger side of the heater box, the fan hits the shroud. I had to cut off the nubs like in 81-85 cars for the Siemens motor to fit. I'm pretty sure I got them all flat. Are the wires on the new motor supposed to stick out the driver's side of the heater box or did I put it in backwards?

My elbows hurt, back to crawling around in the floorpan tomorrow!
