Fuel Tank CONFUSION??? 200 1975

Hello all,

Perhaps someone out there has had this problem. I own a 1975 242, there seems to be some sort of industry wide CONFUSION about the fuel tank in this car. The first hint came when I tried to get a sending unit gasket from my local Volvo dealer, he listed the same gasket as the later model 240's, to big. I am now having him order one for a 140. Next I went to a radiator/Gas Tank Renu shop to check on getting my tank cleaned and sealed, about $300-$350. The shop also had a catalog (w/pictures) of relacement tanks, about $350. The catalog listed two tanks 240/79-93, this tank had the right shape but no filler neck, just a stub. The second tank listed was, 140/164/74-78, this tank looked exactly like mine, included filler neck. I am now looking at online sources, and found a site that lists two tanks, 240/260/79-93 and 140/164/260/74-78, about $255 no pictures. This last tank I think might be what I'm looking for, I would think that any tank that would fit a 260 would also fit a 240, am I right? My tank has no intank fuel pump, and the main pump is bolted to the outside of the tank. Has anyone out there come across this confusion in tank listings?

Thanks for any help you can provide,
