Electric cooling fan wiring 700

I have a Hayden temp sensor and relay to control my electric cooling fan. Removed belt driven. The directions say to connect it to a wire that gets 12v with the ignition switch in the on pos. I know i can attach it to the battery, but i dont like the idea of leaving the fan on w/ the car off. What are the drawbacks of hotwiring it to the battery? Where should i connect the + relay wire? I would like to have it so the fan goes off when the car does. Thanks
