Brickers,
I just had a dealer replace the water pump in my '87 240. When I went to check the fluids that night, there was a small black 10mm nut on the top of the radiator.
It's pretty obvious that the mech failed to replace it (Thereby violating Prime Directive #1--Thou shalt not end up with extra parts after thou is through).
I can't figure out where it came from. The fan clutch attaches with the same nut, but all four nuts are there. The thermostat uses the same nut, but both nuts are there. Most obviously, the water pump uses a couple of these (along with 10mm bolts) but all of the water pump fasteners I can see are present (four 10mm bolts, two studs with 10mm nuts, one stud/bolt each fore and aft)
Is there a third stud holding the water pump that I can't see, or something else near the water pump that uses this fastener? Anybody who can tell me how many fasteners are used on a 240 water pump?
Gratefully,
Dave ("I paid $67/hr for THIS??") S.
