Giving the new ride the "once over" to bring it up to my standards. Need help to keep important things in focus.....
(I am reading the 700/900 FAQ, but I need faster answers)
1) Crankcase breathing was blocked. I cleaned out the plastic "Y" fitting above the oil separator box. Box itself is nearly blocked, so, I will replace it. Rodded out the three brass fittings on the intake manifold. Will replace hard hoses where found. Also removed and cleaned/adjusted throttle body and Idle Control Valve.
Is there anything else I need to check on this turbo engine regarding positive crankcase ventilation? I hear louder than normal valve "clacking"
2) Turbo (Garrett, water-cooled) Removed air ducts and discovered oil coating, but not gumming up, the front of the turbo. Turbine spins freely without rubbing) Cleaned it out using carb srpay, and compressed air. Do I need to do anything with the rear chamber of the unit? (it looks like it has a turbine chamber at the exhaust output)
3) Turbo air ducting: That radiator like item in front of the radiator is coated with oil, too. Can this be cleaned? What to use?
4) Tune up: What are the preferred spark plugs and wires for daily driving performance? Currently has Bosch WRDC7 plugs and 7mm wires.
5) Vaccuum lines and hoses: Most need replacement, but there are so many different sizes. What are the common sizes and where do I find them? Any special types needed for high temperature resistance?
6) Coolant leak: Very noticable coolant leak above passenger left foot. What should I suspect there? Heater control valve? Heater core? Just a hose connection?
7) Cracked dash: How easy is it to replace the dash in a 740? Or, should I just live with it? (I don't like dash caps)
Thanks.
