Air box hose 700

On my 86' 740 there is a hose nipple on the air filter box on the left hand side. The guy I bought it from put a piece of heater hose on it and stuffed the other end down out of site so the emmmissions inspector would't say anything about it.
He said he didn't know where it went to. Does anyone know?????
