Hi, I'm looking to replace the front door speakers in my 940. I plan to drill out the rivets as suggested by previous posts. However, I'm not sure what size speakers to get; what are the max speaker dimensions for the front door? I'm willing to drill new holes, but I don't plan to take a saw and cut open a bigger hole.
Scosche says it can fit 6.5" speakers. Crutchfield says 5.25" speakers (and states that only 3 of their 5.25" speakers will fit in the hole, the others have the "Does Not Fit" icon).
Of those of you who have worked on a 940 (1995), what are your thoughts?
BTW, why do I have so much trouble looking up information for the 1995 940? When I look for harnesses, everyone says Scosche VO01; but that harness clearly does not fit my audio harness. My 940 came with a CR-915 radio with internal amp; but all the vendors still swear that I have an external amp; they disbelieve me even when I tell them I opened the dash and found no amp there; that the scosche wire harness suggested is absolutely the wrong harness... blah blah blah... anyway, that's all for my ranting...
I've got a new AIWA CDC-MP32 head unit installed. I got the wiring diagrams from the Volvo dealership service manual and wired it up myself. My only concern is that it seems to run hot and I have to crank up the volume to around 40-50 to get decent sound output on the factory speakers (the rear deck speakers have been replaced with JBL aftermarket speakers, as of yesterday; but the volume meter still ranges in the 40-50's). Most people I know with the digital volume control have very loud output round the 20's. Is this just a different scale that AIWA uses? If 40's is too high, that probably accounts for why it's running hot--it is working too hard to pump out the power. But the problem remains, what is wrong with the setup such that it requires so much power output?
