I have a 94 965 that dropped the heat exchanger for the airbox thermostat housing. The chiltons manual says that the thermostat keeps the air at an optimum temp for the FI. I know that some systems use this for initial start emission control. Does the motronic 1.8 need an optimum temp for all driving regimes? Will leaving the preheat sytem inop cause problems? I would think that if it only allows ambient temps that mileage may be decreased when it gets colder and drier along with a performance increase. Since the pre-heat would dry the air charge would that cause problems during humid days. Should I repair this system or just install a cold air intake and get rid of the pre-heat system.
