And the manual is so helpful. Like how the section on engine disassembly starts with: "well, now that you've removed the engine from the car and taken off the large bits, here is how to remove the valve cover."
I can remove the bloody valve cover. What I can't seem to remove is the stinking manifold! I have all the bolts out/nuts off except the ones going to the tailpipe, and I haven't figured out what magical contortion I need to be in to accomplish that task. Nor can I master the fine art of choke cable removal from the carbs (it looks so SIMPLE. Why won't the stupid wires just let go?) And while I'm asking, what is the trick with linkages? I've never been able to disengage them (clear back to my 144e in the '80s).
Frankly, taking off the head (which is my goal, so I can have a look see to determine the damage level) seems downright simple compared to getting all of the other crap off of the block. So I appeal to you, readers of the board -- come forth with your tales of disassembly, and save this woman's sanity.
