Winter is approaching fast, and some of us will soon be facing icy roads. I just thought I'd pass along the recent results of an extensive Nordic test of winter tires, hoping it will be of interest to some of you. This was a test performed in a cooperation between Swedish, Finnish and Norwegian motor magazines.
Of the non-studded tires, Nokian has a small over-all lead over Bridgestone. Continental and Michelin come third and fourth. Goodyear was considered the best of the studded tires, with Nokian, Continental and Gislaved sharing second place.
The above is of course just a brief summary, the actual test results show each tire's abilities on snow, on ice, and on bare roads with respect to braking, accelleration, side grip, noise etc. etc. The test cars were FWD Saabs.
If someone would like comments on specific tyres, I'd be happy to help.
Erling.
