Headlight upgrade in pre-86 240s 200 1984

Greetings from Cleveland..home of the famous autumn repaving circus....just in time for the winter weather to tear it all up again.

Giving some serious thought to the purchase of an '84 240 (120K, price is very right, good shape) to add to the stable. I presently own an '87 (186K runs great, body starting to rust out around the windshield, in the rockers, at the trailing edges of the rear wheel arches....you know, the usual places) and have had, previously, a '79 and another '84 in a previous life. I quite enjoyed the lighting in the '79 largely since I was able to upgrade the headlights with a set of Cibie bulb-and-reflector halogens. They worked great! I was not so impressed with the quad square lights in the '84, since no upgrade really did the trick. I do like the large duals on the '87 and have found that bulb upgrades really do wonders. In looking at the lighting system on the '84, I noticed that there appeared to be punch-outs and tab holes already in the sheet metal for what I figured to be European lights, which didn't make it here, way back when. My question is am I able to upgrade the square quads with the appropriate Euro spec lights, which I surmise might just be the same as the post-'86 system or something similar? Has anyone else done this? Still available or am I stuck with the looks and output of the quads? I understand that there are upgrades for the quads and all that, but my question is limited to the possibility of upgrading to Euro spec. As always, thanks in advance for your help.

Brad
