First, thanks to everyone who replied about the "clunking" noise in the back end of the 1989 240 we purchased just a month ago. Unfortunately, before I had time to check it out, I was broadsided by a guy running a stop sign at 35mph--so long dear old wagon. Insurance settlement was more than fair, but now I'm looking again (not a happy time--wagons are scarce here in the SF Bay area)
So--a couple of questions--
I've found a 1991 740--it doesn't say GL or GLE on the back--this probably sounds stupid, but how do you tell if it's a GL or GLE??
And how do you determine whether it's a 16-valve engine? It's Saturday, my husband's out of town, and I'm looking at this car by myself.
Also--any opinions on the usability of the third seat for short (5') adults--or should they be used only for children???
Thanks very much!
