Stereo Install 900 1995

I have a 1995 940 Station wagon. I called Crutchfeld about a CD receiver install (after Circuit and BB wanted to charge $160 for install!) and they said I need to get to the factory amp so I can bypass it. How do I get access to the amp (the car has 6 speakers, and the sales rep mentioned it may be near the steering column).
