crankshaft seal 700

Hi. I am doing my timimg belt today on a b230ft turbo 4 cylinder engine. The guy at ipd told me that you have to be careful when you do the seal because you can knock it into the engine...that there is nothing to stop it. Is this true? thanks...Leo
