On my 85 765 turbo, the harness on the distributor (ez-k ignition, distributor on back of head) is falling apart. Im sure many of you have seen this, but im curious as to how many of you broke down and replaced the entire engine compartment wiring harness for 600$. Ive already replaced the engine harness (fuel injectors, alternator, oil pressure switch, etc., etc.) But there is no way in hell ill spend 600$ on the other harness, considering ive already repaired most of it, and improved it along the way. There is a braded copper insulation around the 2 wires, and then the brade is insulated. Is it all that important to insulate the braid? Or is that just for heat purposes? Can I use 3 regular wires, Or will i have EMI problems, which is why I assume the braid is there in the first place. what have people done to fix this? and does anyone have any Ideas. (and a bone yard harness if kinda out of the question since this one is particular to 1985 ONLY!!, And i dont want to mod a later one, because all the ones in the junk yard will be as bad as mine, and I will hae to repair most of the harness anyway from heat and age, I have yet to find a decent one that I could even salvage.) Thanks!
