aftermarket stereo install problem 200

need some help,
i purchased a stereo system for my daughters 92 244 from crutchfield (alpine cd player #cda-7892). hooked up the two wiring harnesses (power& speakers) to the alpine harness and plugged it in. nothing. receiver doesn't come on at all. hot wired the receiver to the fuse box with test leads to make sure it wasn't the receiver and it came on.i then disconnected the speaker harnesses (new and old) from where it comes out of the volvo factory amp, plugged in the power harness only and still nothing. i then disconnected the power harness and plugged together the speaker harnesses (new and old) only and the damn thing comes on without the two(red and yellow)power wires from the alpine being hooked up to anything! all i can assume is that 12 volts is somehow bleeding back to the receiver through the speaker harness. called crutchfield and they're stumped. checked all the connectors on the new harnesses to make sure it's not a mismatch of the leads in the connectors(black rectangular thing) and they're correct. my questions:

1. at the volvo amp are the speakers on the output side of the amp? if so, is the connector that should go into the crutchfield speaker harness a male or a female side.

2. how hard is it to take the volvo amp completly out of the car?

3. is my best course to just cut and crimp all the factory speaker wires at the amp and hard wire the power?

i know this was a long post and appreciate any thoughts or suggestions you can offer.

thanks, eric
