fitting on air filter box 900

On my 940 GLE, on the left hand side of the air filter box (facing the radiator) is a small fitting that sticks out about 1 inch, and its about 3/4 inch in dia. It looks like there should be a hose attached to it, but my doesn't have one. Does anyone know what this is, and if a hose is supposed to be attached, where does it go to?
