Heater problem 700 1988

My 745TI 1988 B230FT/M46 272k miles with a problem. The interior heater is not working (mine is a European non-AC) is so far as there is hardly any air at all coming out of the vents when I select maximum and what comes out is not hot, whereas in the cold position, there is lots of air. I have no visable leak of coolant inside the car and the engine runs warm and nice. Any ideas?
