removing seal remnants from timing gear cover?

Hi,
Our 90 765Ti is getting some major overhauling done to it, the likes it has never seen before. One of the many problems I have bumped into while changing the seals/t-belt is that the i-seal and crank-seal have become bonded to the metal. Neither seal came out of their seat in one piece!!!!! So I am left with the seal remnants in the seat. Is there a trick to getting the rest of the seal out? Is there something that will desolve the seal?

Oh yeah, is there a seat for the cam seal or does it ride directly on the cam shaft?
