door gasket off at the bottom any fixes? 200

Actually I was dumb enough to take the gasket off the door ( I am painting it). I thought it was pristine but the channel for the gasket is mostly gone on the bottom (rust). Its weird because the rest of the door is perfect..no rust at all in the usual places. Any suggestions on how to get the gasket to stay on.
