Can I put a turbo catalytic converter into a non-turbo car? 200 1982

The cheap after-market generic cat I installed 2 years ago failed and my car won't pass the California smog test. Bummer but I may have a solution. I've got the cat from a '94 940 turbo I bought as a parts car. Will that turbo cat work on my non-turbo car? (Yeah I know the diameter is different, but I think a welding shop should be able to fix that.)
