I was up all night last night looking under the hood, under the dash, and all over here for suggestions....The car wont start...it cranks great and there is lots of spark but the relay (a double one) will not trigger to start the fuel pumps...If I trigger the left solenoid of the two on the PC board making up the relay while cranking the engine it fires right up but quits as soon as I release my hold on the contact. The left solenoid seems to send a signal to the fuel pump solenoid on the right side of the pc board...I dont have to trigger this one by hand. If I trigger only the fuel pump side of the relay and crank the motor does not start...it all seems to revolve around the left hand side. I, through all sorts of reading here, am starting to suspect a failed impulse sender in the distributor...could this be it or would there be no spark if this was the problem?? I know that the fuel pump relay requires a pulse signal from the ignition system to activate....where does this come from...the ECU or from something under the hood? PLEASE HELP...if it takes much longer to solve I'll give up and have to drive my Mustang through the winter....oh yeah...one more thing....I live about 100 miles off the coast of North America just south of Alaska so please dont suggest getting a Volvo dealer to check the codes...hmmm the nearest one is likely at least 800 miles away.
