Carter fuel pump 200 1985

After a long struggle my mechanic (I might have had some input) has come to the conclusion that the fuel pump does not supply the constant flow and pressure to keep my fuel system working correctly. I've looked around, and took note that the pump must perform to specifications, and the price range is $86.74 for a Masters pump to $159.99 for a Carter pump. I know Carter is legendary for their carburetor's. Does anyone think this might spill over to their Volvo fuel pumps (main pump)?? Thanks.

Hugh W.
