Is this a Volvo rearend? 444-544

This is a re-post from the RWD forum. It looks like there's a lot of traffic here, and a post may be missed by someone who could answer my question. Thanks to "dlot" for pointing me in the correct direction. He suggested it might be from a P1800, 122S, or PV544. Sorry for the redundancy in the post.

Any and all help is appreciated! I'm trying to identify a friend's rear axle, but haven't had any luck.

It'd be a lot easier to identify this axle if it were on a "standard" car. This car is a roadster done in 50's hot rod style with a '49 Austin nose, '25 Model T hood, '27 Model T pickup body, and a turtle deck that I've never seen before. The motor and tranny are Volvo, and I SUSPECT the rear end is too. The car was purchased from someone who didn't know ANYTHING about it, and wouldn't give information on where the car came from. We really wish we could trace the history, but haven't found an ounce of info. It's obviously a home-built, heavily modified vehicle.

I've taken a few photos of the axle with the drum off, hoping to locate someone who would know what in the heck this thing is. The drum measures 9" inside. The axle is tapered, with threads on the end. A washer, castle nut, and cotter pin hold the drum on. If you wouldn't mind, would you take a look at the photo and give me your opinion?

As you can see from the photos, there is currently no provision for the emergency brake, there are holes in each backing plate for the cable though. Rather than "fabricating" a lever and cable system, we'd much rather purchase hardware designed specifically for the rear end.

Thanks for your time and help! If you have difficulty seeing the image, email me and I'll send it to you.
