Hi All,
My 81 DL that I recently purchased, starts imeadiately and then begins to stumble to the point of barely running. When it reaches operating tempreture it runs fine, although the idle is pretty rough. It makes good power accelerating and at highway speed once it is warmed up as well, but until it warms up, it has almost no power ( will only go about 30 MPH and won't hardly shift out of first) This is puzzling, because it only has 105K on it and runs real strong accept for this problem. Scince I bought the car, I have rebuilt the air conditioning because the compressor went out, and since I was that far into it, I did the three front end seals, upper and lower radiator hoses, timing belt, water pump, all belts, new Bosch plug wires, new cap and rotor, flame trap was plugged so repaired ( was pushing out the dipstick, no longer doing that, but the oil cap doesn't suck down ) ran a can of BG44K through it, and am currently running some Marvel Mystery oil in the crankcase. I don't have a lot of experience with the CIS, other than I bought an 81 244DL new and had the flametrap problem with it at about 60K. From what I gather, when the car starts, it is primed by the cold start injector and then something else richens the mixture until it warms up. I looked at the oxygen sensor, and it appears new but who knows in Colorado, because we don't get much corrosion. It is the single wire variety. I want to deal with what every vacuum lines, connectors etc. that need dealt with to have trouble free operation. Where do I start, should I run one more can of 44K through and see what happens, also someone told me I should replace all of the fuses and clean their contacts? Thanx in advance. Forgive my spelling, I didn't get a chance to run spellcheck!
