Car is a 1989 245DL (automatic)
I got an oil and tranny fluid change at a Volvo independent shop today. I know the guy who worked on my car is a professional and knew what he was doing, but I'm just one of those guys who thinks he may know otherwise (good thing, bad thing? I don't know). I always like to get a post-service review when I take any car in for service. The amount of fluid added:
1. Oil - 4.5 qts. Castrol 20W50 grade
2. Trans. - 4.0 qts. Dextron III
My question is 4.5 qts for oil correct? It's not overfilled because I checked it, but the guy said 4.5 is needed to top it off (even though the manual says 4.0 qts).
For the tranny, I don't think the torque converter fluid was changed. So is 4.0 qts. of Dextron III the correct amount? I know that the manual says the transmission holds about 7.8 qts. total. So that means the torque converter holds about 3.8-4 qts. of fluid?
I guess my biggest concern is overfilling or underfilling the transmission. I know I wouldn't feel this way had I done it myself, but I didn't have time or the know-how and this place only works on Volvos :o) The pan was removed and the filter and gasket replaced, both were original Volvo parts. It was my first time there, so that just makes me a little paranoid. Having my oil and tranny fluid/filter changed was meant to give me a peace of mind, but now I need a peace of mind if it was done correctly. BTW, the place seems like a nice shop with good Volvo techs. The guy who worked on my car seemed pretty meticulous on certain things, and that's good! But I still want second opinions! Oh, the cost was about $126 (after tax) and that included servicing and replacing some PCV parts. Thanks!
