O/D Problems 200 1989

Very Frustratng! The OD/4th gear (Automatic)is not working on my '89 240DL wagon. I fixed the relay and the wiring to the solenoid...both of which needed fixing. The relay works and the solenoid clicks and everything seems as though it should work. However, the car doesnt shift into 4th gear. I've already had the solenoid off to re-wire but I didn't check to see if the fluid holes are clogged...that's the only thing I can imagine that is preventing this from working. Maybe there's something else that I haven't checked. Please advise before I go down there and pull this thing apart again or maybe there's something about the solenoid that I don't know.
