M46 w/OD that leaks 200 1981

My M46 w/OD seems to be leaking in the area of the selenoid and/or the rectangular plate on the bottom of the OD its self. What is the common fault and the common cure? Also, is it true that these transmissions and OD;s use Dexron ATF fluid instead of a gear oil?
