ignition 'bypass'--dangerous? it's fused.... 200 1983

Morning rollers,

Was reading Haynes manual to girlfriend's Toyota Celica ('81 244 is sensible replacement) in office moments ago and was reminded of identical passage in 240 buch. I quote:

"Some circuits are protected by fusible links. The links are used in circuits which are not ordinarily fused, such as the ignition circuit."

Had a no start prob w/ my '83 245DL w/Chrysler ignition back in Feb. Turned out to be low tension side of ignition, was a break/open in harness somewhere and coil was only getting 2-5 V (erratic, fluctuating reading on VOM), the system wouldn't spark.

Wiring harnesses on the car are not perfect but can of worms mentality klicked in plus time and money were tight....

Have only Haynes "generic" wiring dia. for this kar so I ran a 12 ga. wire from fuse term. 11 (OD, rear demist, 16 A) under dash, through firewall, directly to the coil bypassing the break.

No probs since, have driven kar more or less daily since plus 2 1000 mi. trips.

Should I leave things the way they are? Am I giving the coil more voltage than designed? No ballast resistor as such in this system I understand. Could this arrangement harm that expensive looking ignition box in right fender?

I do keep a fire extinguisher in the car....
