headliner replacement tip 700 1989

My girlfriend's car needed a new headliner when we bought it. Everyone knows the hardest part about this job on a sedan is getting the backer board in and out of the car. So I did an experiment on her car. I neatly cut the backer board in two pieces, applied the material on the two pieces separately, and installed them back into the car separately. I did this by cutting the board and making a "seam" on each side of the sunroof. The "seam" is just the 2 pieces of the backer board butting up against each other with the material wrapped over the top on each piece. This made the job so easy. Does it look like new? No. Do people notice? No. Would a purist cringe? Probably. But overall I am very pleased with the result. Let me know what you all think, if it looks like a ghetto hack-job or if this is a legitimate tip! FWIW I did this about 9 months ago and I have since done 1 other headliner the "proper" way.
