Struts clunkin' Part II 200 1987

240 Sedan 87

Ok. This is the the third time Ive reassembled this strut!!!! I thought I undestood it, I guess I dont. It's still clunkin, and here's where.

If I rock the car by grabbing under the fender, I can see the strut rod move up and down making a huge clunk. If I rock the car, while putting downward force on the top of the strut rod with my hand, it doesnt clunk (I can tell this is happening when I drive - the strut cap is pushed up).

Anyway, all nuts are tightened, Ive replaced the strut tower assembly, and a new boot and bumper underneath, too. What is supposed to hold this strut rod from pushing up when the wheel comes up? I thought it was the top nut, which is super tight, but now Im not sure....man I am lost!!!

I dont do my own repairs to be a cheapskate, I do it to know more about the car, and have some fun too, but Im almost ready to take it to the repair shop...man that's gonna be tough.

Thanks again in advance!!

Curt
