This I my first visit to the 900 board, so please forgive me if I plow some old ground.
One of those charity car lots has a '92 960 w/+/- 120k mi. on it. Blown timing belt!! The car looks pretty darn good aside from a couple of dents. I believe a guy could take it off their hands for about $1k, maybe less. I understand that the cost of a new timing belt is around $2600, maybe a bit more.
Here are the questions? Is the '92 a good one from a reliability standpoint? Pretty early in the production cycle as I recall. Everything equal, is this one, as I describe it, worth $5000 if I want to fix it up? Maybe the engine has been abused in other ways. What engines can be used as replacements? Would anyone care to estimate the cost of a used or rebuilt be? Installed?
Thank You!
