Blasted roof rack, rather those ribs on the roof! Took them off too late, and there are five holes on the roof, the size of a coin.
The panel beater's alternatives are: (1) cut out the whole section and weld in another sheet (over 1000 Aussie dollars), or (2) fill in all holes after sanding to metal and treating (450 Aussie dollars). The success of the latter is unpredictable, but the chances are still better if done by a professional than if I attempted it.
I am looking for other options. So far I could think of one: cutting the middle of the roof out of a wreck and gluing the skin on the holed roof with epoxy, sanding the edge and painting it. The stepped appearance would not bother me, but would this solution last? Would the existing rusty holes underneath get bigger?
Thanks for suggestions,
George Antony
