Since I posted the following I went to the dealer and was told by their mechanic that the knock sensor on my car is useless and I should unplug it. Yet in other posts I've heard similar symptoms described being miraculously cured with a new knock sensor. I'm sure Volvo wouldn't put one on if it wasn't needed. Are these guys just Bozos or what? As it is a $60.00 part I don't want to waste my money on a useless repair.
Any comments?

Previous post:
I've gone round after round with the dealer over my 1988 240 wagon's poor performance. Its got a new cat, O2 sensor, mass air sensor, fuel filter, cap, rotor, plugs, engine temp sensor, fuel preassure regulator, and multiple treatments with various gas additives. It still runs like hell and on the slightly hot side. Could it be the knock sensor? I'm tired of throwing money into this car and am starting to lose faith in Volvo. Please help me, I'm at the end of my rope.
Thanks for any comments in advance.
