any tips for cleaning intake ports on head? 200 1979

Before i put injectors back in with new seals, I there any good ideas on ways to clean the the intake ports, any way to get any bits of crude that make their way down to the valves? I don't suppose there is any type of solvent the could be dumped in there is there? I also need to clean the intake manifold as well, I might take the advice that I heard on this board, and have them blasted with walnut shells or whatever they use.
