Argh! What a night. I go to Chevron to fill up my tank, as the guage reads really, really low. While on my way, some asshole tailgates me and presses his horn down at me continuously. I was trying to make a left turn on a green light, and I was yielding to oncoming traffic. But this asshole is so impatient! I thought he was going to rear end me. That was how close he was! I was pissed, needless to say. Anyhow, when I get to the gas station, I swipe my card, put 89 gas and put the hands-free mechanism on. But it kept popping up and I would have to press on it again. I gave up and just held the lever down all the while still somewhat upset over the incident. Well, when my tank was full, the lever automatically popped up. However, my mind was somewhere else and I naturally assumed the gas pump lever was popping up again and pressed the lever down. It popped right up, and I pressed it again. Then I noticed that my tank was full. I pull the nozzle out and some gas spilled out. Now, is overfilling the gas tank a bad thing? I guess I'm thinking in line with the consequences of overfilling the oil or tranny. Will an overfilled gas tank exert unnecessary pressure on any of the fuel system components? Or damage the gas guage? Thanks!

BTW, what is that hole on the black rubber thingy under the gas cap for? I see that the rubber piece does a nice job of catching spilled gas. Is the hole for sending the gas back to the gas tank?
