Testing ignition control unit 200 1986

Is there any way to test the iginition control unit rather than just replacing it? All tests check out (voltage and resistance at coil, voltage at distributor, jumping hall switch makes fuel pump run) but there is no spark. Seems like it must be the control unit but I hate to replace it without knowing for sure because it is pricey. Karin
