740Turbo Noisy Like old Bug 700 1991

My 740 Turbo is making noise under load. My best explanation of this noise is that it sounds like an old VW Bug. I examined the exhaust and it appears fine rear muffler 18months old. I compression tested engine and it is fine. car is powerful and performs well. My feeling is it maybe the catalytic converter. Again this noise only occurs under load and not on neutral rev. Any ideas will be appreciated. I love my Volvo but not this noise.
