Oven cleaner vs. brake dust?? 900

I vaguely remember reading at some point that oven cleaner spray would do a good job dissolving tough brake dust residue on alloy rims... is this true? Or am I just dreaming that up? can't find anything in the FAQ/archives...

I spent a couple hours last night scrubbing my "new" set of alloy rims with Simple Green degreaser and a toothbrush. This did a pretty good job, but I've still got a bit of really tough brake dust in the nooks & crannies...
