Got rid of the shimmy on the right hand side of the car in left hand turns.
Turned out to be a bad tire and a bad rim. Since both were on the right hand side, sort of clouded the issue. Last weekend had the tires rotated because of the shimmy. The problem got a lot worse. After thinking about it swapped the tires back and the problem was still there, but better. Had the tire store replace the better tire because it had three patches in it. The milder shimmy was gone! But still had the other tire to deal with. The rim had taken quite a shot a long time ago and had a big dent on the side. Now this has been on the car for at least 10 years like this. Played a hunch and went to the junk yard and got a rim. Put on the tire on the new rim and had it spin balanced. Installed that tire on the front and the problem was also gone. Spent way too much time at the tire store, but problem solved. I drove over 350 miles today, took several lefts at over 80 mph smooth as silk. Set the cruise and enjoyed the sunshine and a beautiful East Texas drive in the brick.
Still have some worn bushings and other front end items to check out. Any help with changing out bushings and ball joints would be of great. This has made me aware of an area of the car I have been not paying much attention to.
By the way I got my Volvo for the best price, free. My Mom could not stand to trade her baby that she purchased new in 85 in for the $250.00 they offered and asked me to give it a good home. Turned out to be a great gift.
