This post is in response to my "My baby got new turbo shoes on" post. I felt it was pretty important enough to make it a separate post due to the safety issue involved. One reply by DHarvey got me concern about the issue at hand regarding the 4 locater pins found on each wheel and which fit through the tiny hole of each of the stock 14" wheel. Here's the reply:

Those pins lock the wheel and hub to the rotor so that when you jump on the brakes hard the whole thing stops as a unit. If you remove those pins, you have to install a bolt in each hub to lock the rotor in position. I forget the size and location, but look at an older 240 hub--my 1980 does not have locating pins on its hubs because it has the heavy-duty bolt setup.
I wonder why Volvo decided the pins were better.
Don't drive around without either the pins or the bolts in place.

When I got my turbo rims fitted on my 245 today, the guy took off those pins. So, the only thing holding the rims onto the hub are the 5 chrome turbo lug nuts on each wheel. Do I need to put or screw on some kind of bolt or locater pin that are designed for the turbo rims so that they will be more securely held in place? I really need to know as I will be driving my car tomorrow. Thanks!
