I have been thinking of installing an aux transmission fluid cooler to my '95 965. I have heard the horror stories about when the radiator cracks and pumps coolant into the transmission fluid. Bypassing the radiator sounds like the best way to avoid this problem. HOWEVER, I am concerned that, in the winter, the transmission fluid is WARMED by passing through the radiator. If we bypass the raditor, perhaps the transmission fluid will be too cold in the winter. One question is: is there a thermostat valve that controls the transmission fluid temperature inside the transmission itself (or elsewhere)? I recall reading that there is such a valve in the 740 transmissions.
Also, does anyone know the optimal temperature for the transmission fluid for the AW30-40?
Many thanks,
Steve
