Color code for speaker wires? 700 1990

I want to replace the non factory stereo and install a CD player for my wife. The previous owner removed the factory radio and cut the shield cable and tried to splice into the speaker wires, the radio works but does not sound right and the fader / balance are not right. I'd like to connect my new stereo properly, but I cannot figure out the color codes for the speaker wires! I've searched the archives, but could not find help. Could someone give me directions.
