Car alarms? Any info appreciated... 700

I've got a 940 actually, but since the 700 forum seems to be much larger, I thought I'd post a question here... since the question isn't all that car specific.

Anyone have a simple, relatively inexpensive car alarm system they might recommend? I checked the archives and came up with the 'Alpine' at around $100. Last week I had my rear window bashed out... trying to get stuff from the glove box.

The guy at the Car Alarm store told me car alarms are VERY difficult to install... a confusing mass of wiring, etc. Is this true? I'd be looking for a simple alarm that just makes a noise... not one that locks the doors, starts the car, etc.

Any information much appreciated...
