Are they needed? I'm doing a cam change soon and I wondered if i could just elliminate them? The ones that I saw in the junk yard were dry,cracked etc. A little extra noise wouldn't bother me. I know that on the old BMW bikes, ya wanted to hear them. Course, being air cooled they have a larger gap.
