Strange effect of synthetic gear oil 200

I've posted before about stupid differential tricks my car is playing. I tried to appease it by switching to synthetic gear oil. No change--the rear end was still singing.

But hey--after 20-30 miles, the noise is dropping off. That's strange--there's nothing in there except metal and oil. If the synthetic were going to help the situation, why wouldn't it help right away?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Doug Harvey
