Clunking in rear suspension bushings????? 200

Hi-
Ive got a 86' 245. Recently there has been a clunking on the drivers side. Its not too bad and doesnt vary with speed. kinda goes: klunk klunk ka-klunk klunk as your driving around town. On the highway it clunks at about the same speed and volume. It is not a constant noise, but regular. I recenctly installed overload springs? could these be mounted improperly?
I guess it might be a bad bushing. Ive got the car up on stands and have looked at all the rear bushings pretty well. None seem gone, or really very bad. The upper shock mount bushing seems like a candidate, but the rubber looks ok, could the shock have cut through the rubber?
On a side note... should one attempt to replace bushings without the volvo special tools? In particular the large rear axle bushings that the trailing arm rides on. Does anyone know of any methods for changing the bushings? Ive got access to a lot of tools and a couple of big gear pullers..

Thanks for any ideas
