dieseling 200 1987

My car has been dieseling lately, running after I turn it off. This is a minor issue relative to others I have dealt with but I'd like it to stop none the less. What is the cause of this? As I recall, pumping higher octane fuel will stop this but I don't think low octane fuel is the cause. Should I just break down and pump mid grade? The car is running great on the low octane stuff, it just likes to keep running when I want it to stop.
