Uncontrolled acceleration in 240 DL 200 1986

240 DL, 1986, Automatic, well kept, I thought.
The car is starting, running well for 3 seconds, and then accelerating uncontrollably. Acceleration stays the same through Park, Neutral, or in gear.
This was not happening earlier today and it just happened 1/2 hour ago. My son says it has happened to him before. Please help with suggestions.
