Adjusting AMM to eliminate flatspot during acceleration?? 200 1983

Bricksters:
I have my son's 83 245 nonturbo with Bosch distributor (not the white Chrystler one). It has a flatspot or sometimes a complete cutout (then suddenly turns back on) during acceleration or even just running down the street. I have read in Volvo Problem Solver of a "flatspot" that should not be taken out, they talk of adjusting the Air Mass Meter. Has anyone ever adjusted out this annoying and dangerous flatspot?
I also suspect that a sensor may not be sending a complete signal to the computer...or is the computer (or ignition module) on the blink?
How to tell?
Thanks,
el Raidman
